What does this JSON formatter do?
jsonparse.io parses your JSON, checks that it is valid, and reformats it with consistent indentation so it is easy to read. Paste JSON into the editor and the tree view shows its structure as collapsible objects and arrays. The status bar reports whether the input is valid, along with its line count, number of keys, nesting depth and size.
If the JSON is invalid, the status bar shows the parser error so you can find the problem. The most common causes are trailing commas, single quotes around strings, unquoted keys and comments, none of which are allowed in standard JSON.
How do you format JSON online?
- Paste your JSON into the editor, upload a .json or .txt file, or load it from a URL.
- Choose 2, 3 or 4 spaces of indentation.
- Click Format to pretty-print it, or Minify to remove all whitespace.
- Copy the result, download it as data.json, or create a share link.

Is my JSON sent to a server?
No. Parsing, formatting and validation all run in your browser. Share links store the JSON after the # in the URL, and browsers do not send that part of a link to servers.
What is the difference between formatting and minifying JSON?
Formatting adds line breaks and indentation so the data is easy to read. Minifying removes that whitespace to make the JSON as small as possible for storage or network transfer.
Why is my JSON invalid?
The usual causes are a comma after the last item, keys or strings in single quotes, keys without quotes, and comments. JSON also has no undefined, NaN or Infinity values. The status bar shows the parser error to help you locate the problem.
Can I open a JSON file from my computer?
Yes. Click Upload and pick a .json or .txt file. Your browser reads the file locally and it is not uploaded anywhere.
