What does the JSON diff tool compare?
The JSON diff tool compares two JSON documents and lists every difference between them. Paste the original version on the left and the modified version in the middle. The Changes panel shows each difference with its path, such as user.address.city, marked as added, removed or changed, together with the old and new values.
The comparison is structural, not line by line. Objects are compared key by key, so reordering keys or changing indentation does not create false differences. That makes it more useful than a plain text diff for API responses, config files and test fixtures.
How do you compare two JSON files?
- Paste the original JSON into Original (A).
- Paste the new version into Modified (B).
- Read the counts of added, removed and changed values at the top.
- Check each entry in the Changes panel to see its path and the values before and after.
Both documents must be valid JSON. If either one fails to parse, the error appears next to the counts.
Frequently asked questions
Does key order affect the result?
No. Objects are matched by key name, so {"a": 1, "b": 2} and {"b": 2, "a": 1} are reported as identical.
Does whitespace or indentation matter?
No. Both inputs are parsed before they are compared, so only the data is compared, not the formatting.
What do added, removed and changed mean?
Added means a key exists only in the modified JSON. Removed means it exists only in the original. Changed means the key exists in both, but its value is different.
Is my data uploaded?
No. Both documents are compared in your browser and never leave your device.
